Tri-State Conference Division II Finalist Set
This past weekend saw Fairfield University Women defeat Stony Brook University Women in a thriller of a semifinal. The home team earned a place in the final this year after the 21-19 win against the Seawolves from Long Island.
In the other semifinal the Vassar College Women weathered an early storm and after being 10-5 down finished the day solid winners over SUNY-New Paltz Women 79-22.
Next weekend, on Saturday November 3rd, the final will be held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. The kick-off is at 1:00 pm and the officials will be from the New York Rugby Referees Society and the Rugby Referees Society of New York.
The Tri-State Conference has usually sent 3 teams to the USA Rugby National Fall Championship and so the game between the two other teams to determine third place is of real significance. Stony Brook University Women versus SUNY-New Paltz Women will kick-off at 11:00 am on Anderson Field the home of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Women’s Rugby.
Central Division Champions
Congratulations are due the Montclair State University Women who this weekend defeated Fordham University Women 45-5 to take the Central Division title. In what was to be a rebuilding year they have exceeded expectations and can be very proud of this accomplishment.

Post-Season, Referees and Communication

Please click on the links below to see how the post-season shapes up. This year has been disrupted somewhat by the withdrawal of teams (NJIT, Hartwick, ASA) as well as difficulties with other programs having low numbers. Poor communication and school policy issues have also proved problematic.

Please remember only teams that are in compliance with USA Rugby may play games. Just go to http://www.USARugby.org then click on Membership, Public Rosters and pull up the team roster and it will show if the team is compliant.

TS Women Fall 2018 Playoffs 10-8-18

Referees

The Rugby Referees Society of New York (RRSNY) and the New York Rugby Referees Society (NYRRS) officiate all our games. Any schedule changes must go through the Conference before being then sent on to the Referee Society. The Referees are assigned and published on the RRSNY or NYRRS web sites and when that assignment is known then and only then may a team contact a referee. Some programs have unilaterally contacted referees and offered to pay more than the match fee. This is not allowed. Both Societies do a great job covering a large number of games with a small cadre of referees. Please understand that we must work within the system, PAY THE REFEREES IN A TIMELY MANNER and work together in a spirit of cooperation.

Communication

Please make sure that you communicate with your opponent each week to ensure the game details are known at the start of the week. Too often teams are just sending an e-mail which may or may not be read for days! The cell numbers of most team officers are on the web site so please talk to each other and confirm details as well as send an e-mail and text. Get confirmation.

Thank you for your time.

Tri-State Rugby Conference 2018-19 Season Begins
This weekend marks the start of the 2018-19 season for Tri-State Collegiate Rugby Conference teams.

Saturday September 8th, 2018
On Saturday September 8th two Long Island schools will get the ball rolling as Monroe College Women will be at Hofstra University Women. Upstate will see Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Women travel to the University at Albany Women.
On the men’s side Molloy College Men will host New Jersey Institute of Technology Men. The latter program has suffered the last year or so with construction at the school meaning they have not had field space and there is some question as to whether or not they will be able to fulfill their games. Hopefully NJIT can get enough of a squad to sustain a season of games.

Sunday September 9th, 2018
On Sunday September 9th the majority of the rest of the Conference take to the field with a full slate of games.

Referees
The Conference games are officiated by the Rugby Referees Society of New York (RRSNY) and the New York Rugby Referees Society (NYRRS). Teams are reminded to mark out the technical area for coaches on their home field and to have a fence along the touchlines. But most important is that all players, coaches and spectators are asked to respect the refereeing decisions and understand that the game depends on this tradition.
Teams are required to go to the RRSNY or NYRRS web site on Monday of each week to see which referee has been assigned to their game the following weekend. Then the home team must contact the referee and give kick-off and travel details. If contact has not been established with the referee and details confirmed by Wednesday then the team should contact me at tobrown@vassar.edu or call (845) 380-9052.
Teams are all expected to have set-up with their school the Medical Emergency Plan for the rugby game. Please talk with your Club Sport Director, Student Association, Athletic Department or the Faculty Advisor and ensure that a Medical Emergency Plan is in place. There must be an EMT, Athletic Trainer, Paramedic or Physician at each game to provide medical coverage in the event of an injury.
All programs are reminded to have their players registered with USA Rugby in the Club and Individual Participation Program (CIPP). The team must be registered as well.

Please go to the Tri-State Conference web site http://www.tristaterugby.com
and you can read all the rules and regulations pertaining the conference.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and ood luck with your Fall Season
Sincerely,
Tony Brown
