Happy Holidays, AGM & Coaching Clinic
To: All Tri-State Collegiate Rugby Conference Teams
Date: Friday December 24th, 2021
Dear Tri-State Administrators, Coaches, Players, Referees, Family and Friends,
While the past 18 months have been difficult as we have all had to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic you have prevailed!
So at this time of year when we reflect on the events and people in our lives please remember that we have practiced with masks, been socially distanced, returned to play and pieced together a Rugby season. So thank you all for your exceptional efforts and continued involvement.
Please note that in 2022 we will put together a 7s Season for teams like no other in an effort to rebuild our rosters. We will discuss this in great detail at the Zoom AGM that will be scheduled in January 2022, details to follow.
Also mark Sunday February 27th, 2022 on your calendar as we are planning on hosting a Coaching Clinic, a Referee Clinic and a Strength & Conditioning Clinic at SUNY-Maritime College – confirmation and details to follow.
Thank you all again and I hope you have a happy holiday season and all the best for 2022.
Sincerely,
Tony Brown

Fall Season 2021
To: All Tri-State Conference Rugby Teams
Re: Fall Season 2021
Date: November 1, 2021
Regular Season
The Fall 2021 regular season has come to a close save for the Men’s Division III who have one more weekend of play. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the administrators, team leaders and players for making their best effort each week to work with other teams and play as much of the schedule as was possible. The small rosters for teams, issues with transportation, Covid restrictions, a small pool of referees and the injuries sustained all contributed to problems yet for the most part we prevailed. Thank you one and all.
Post-season
The Tri-State Conference is now entering the post season and that means a few teams will advance to the Conference finals and regional play. It is important that you get with your school academic registrar and complete the eligibility paperwork. (Blank form attached). I would encourage those involved in the post season to go to the Tri-State Conference website, the ACRA website and the NCR website for pertinent details regarding playoff brackets and venues. ( https:/tristaterugby.org, https://www.acrarugby.org, https://www.ncrugby.org ) {Women’s Division II ACRA brackets
Additional games
It has come to my attention that some teams are wanting to add games to their schedule now that conference play has concluded. However, There is a severe shortage of referees and we need to be considerate of the burden we are putting on these officials. Please do not schedule games independently with another school or club and then seek a referee. You may request that a game be added to the schedule and to do so you will need to e-mail both the Conference and the Referee’s Society ( tobrown@vassar.edu, camille.juzwik@gmail.com ) But please understand that the game may not be played.
Coaches
This Fall has proven particularly challenging for teams with so many rookies on the field and there has been a tendency for coaches to go onto the field of play during games. Though understandable this is not permissible. Coaches need to remain on the touchline and I would ask that all take a few minutes to review the Coaches Code of Conduct that is on the Tri-State website. (The exception to this rule would be a medical emergency where the coach is a trained EMT, paramedic, ATC, physician or their presence is requested by medical personnel to assist an injured player.) Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns and again a big thank you for making this Fall Season possible.
Sincerely,
Tony Brown

Many Tri-State teams are still getting their rosters filled and are being allowed to participate by their school. Thank you to the Club Sport Directors and student administrators for working to make this season happen for the rugby players.
This past weekend saw the Fairfield University Women bounce back with a convincing win at U. at Albany. Stony Brook University Women proved much more competitive in their match up with an ever improving Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as the Engineers won 53-10.
In a close one at SUNY-New Paltz the hosts, New Paltz Women, may have gone down but in the process they earned 2 bonus points, one for losing by less than 7 and one for scoring 4 tries – Hofstra University Women 25 at SUNY-New Paltz Women 20.
Another close game was the RPI Men edging to victory over Seton Hall University Men. With WPU out of the picture and there only being the 4 teams in Division II results in the regular season will determine the seeding for the Conference Championship and all 4 teams advance. (N1 v N4 and N2 v N3).
In the Central Division, Hofstra Men finished with a 10 point margin over SUNY-Maritime College 34-24 while Vassar defeated SUNY-New Paltz 58-10. Oneonta Men had to forfeit against Drew and Montclair State had a bye and will be better prepared for next week.
In all twelve (12) games were played this weekend with 4 forfeits. Of those forfeits Columbia Women did play versus Rutgers Women scoring 50 points and Siena Women tied 10-10 with Montclair Women but then didn’t have enough players to finish the game.

TRI-STATE CONFERENCE FALL 2021 UPDATES
Schedule changes and Covid regulations
The Tri-State Collegiate Rugby Conference has announced a revised Fall 2021 Schedule and released details for teams regarding Covid-19.
Following a Zoom Meeting on September 2nd, 2021 with team representatives of all divisions and both genders, it was determined that some changes would be in the best interests of students, referees and administrators.
Covid-19
Teams need to inform opponents and the assigned referee of the Covid regulations on their campus and full compliance is expected of the visiting team. This information must include vaccination policy, testing policy, masking policy, and spectator policy for visitors and participants. The Conference has adopted as a minimum the NCAA Covid guidelines and this was distributed to all teams last week.
Fall 2021 Schedule
A very productive discussion took place regarding the Fall Schedule and thanks is due to the Club Sports Directors on the call who made valuable contributions. It should be noted that in future years every effort will be made to have the Conference Schedule start on the third week of September as this will help allow time for recruitment of players and team preparation.
Women Division II (ACRA & USA Rugby)
The games originally scheduled for September 12th, 2021 have been moved to October 17th, 2021. As a consequence the playoff structure has been modified and thus the top 4 teams in each division will qualify for the Conference quarterfinals.
Women Division III (ACRA & USA Rugby)
The games scheduled for September 19th, 2021 have been moved to October 24th, 2021. The games scheduled for September 26th, 2021 have been moved to October 31st, 2021. The playoff opportunity will be Bowl Games in the Northeast with neighboring Conferences. Bard College Women are prepared to travel and play B-side games (7s or perhaps 10s) and have all dates open at present. Please contact the coach Garrett Montgomery.
Men Division II (NCR)
The fact that Monroe College Men is not fielding a team this Fall means a bye weekend. Therefore the playoff structure has been modified but all teams will be seeded and have a playoff opportunity.
Men Division III (NSCRO)
The fact that Molloy College Men and WCSU are not fielding a team this Fall means bye weekends. SUNY-Oneonta are not allowed to host teams so their schedule is all away games. The Conference will assist the Oneonta men with travel costs. Consequently some changes have been made to the venues on the schedule however, all teams have 4 home games and 3 away games.
Please click on the link below to see the Fall Schedule with all the changes and feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

College Rugby
In the effort to have teams play safely this fall with Covid-19 still a factor in the general public, the Tri-State Conference is publishing a list of university and college administrators who oversee the Rugby teams at their respective schools. Together with a list of the head coaches it is hoped that quick and efficient communication can take place so that teams may compete.
A number of scenarios could emerge that need the leaders and decision makers to act swiftly.
At one end of the scale it may be that a game time or location has to be switched; in the event of a cancellation by an opponent it may be possible to have another fill in; the referees may need confirmation at late notice of the game being on; or at the other end of the spectrum it could be a Covid-19 issue that requires all participants being informed of a possible exposure.

The student leadership of each team, in conjunction with the school administrator and head coach, is expected to be very proactive and make the effort to physically talk with their competition to confirm details and resolve issues. Despite the convenience of email often it is not retrieved in a timely manner whereas a conversation solves that problem.
Please feel free to contact the Tri-State Director, Tony Brown, if you are unable to get in contact with another team when it is a time sensitive matter. (Tony Brown 845-380-9052).
